Eino Leino heritage house

The Eino Leino house is a heritage house built in 1978 according to the house of Elias Lönnrot (1802-1884) and birth house of Eino Leino (1878-1926) in Paltaniemi, Kajaani.

Lönnrot lived in Hövelö at the beginning of his work in Kajaani in 1834-35 and compiled in that time the old Kalevala. Eino Leino lived his childhood (1878-95) as the youngest of ten children of Antti and Emilia Lönnbohm in Hövelö. Also his brothers Kasimir Leino, a writer, critic and theater person, and Oskar Lönnbohm, a multitalented person grew in Hövelö.

The old Hövelö was deconstructed at the beginning of 1970. This new Eino Leino heritage house was rebuilt at the current place and opened at the 100th birthday of Eino Leino in 1978.

Today the house is owned by Elias Lönnrot association and Kainuu´s Eino Leino association.
